I was a tutor in New York over the last five years and then I worked with eight different homeschoolers and contacted a number of others. Some of these families offer their children an education absolutely beautiful. Others do a poor job of it. I gave much thought to define the properties of families with successful school-house, outside of losing, and I think I have some useful ideas to help families decide whether to make jumping. Of course there are considerations to both academic and nonacademic to take into consideration the education, but my question is here primarily to discuss academic issues. My first question for parents of instruction given at home is: why? There are many possible answers to this question, but I think most of the time, responses were divided into three categories. First, there are families who simply believe they can offer their children a better education than they could get in any school available. Then there are families who are in a difficult situation, the school-house and it could be a solution (although this has never been a first choice). Finally, families with working children (usually actors), and can not reasonably go to regular school, too. All these categories contain homeschooling families, both success and failure, even if blocks the most common stumbling block seems to be different. Among families who want to try home schooling because they believe they can offer a true higher education, I have noticed a significant drop that parents assume that their interests are at the heart of a good education . For example, I had a friend in college that was more bitter by the fact that (their elderly parents, both of Harvard mathematics) version of home schooling led her to become more proficient in calculating the 11 years, but unfortunately can not write more than just a sentence or two, until he entered public school in the 6th. Furthermore, I now have a student whose parents, the school-house know they can not do math or science justice is why he hired me is why we do everything work for a variety of adults who dominate the math and science contribute to their education. The child receives a good education in the humanities from their parents and a good education in math and science to me and others. Unfortunately, no one is fully competent in all subjects that the child should be exposed, especially as they grow and the material becomes more complicated. Have you considered how you will address any questions your child should be studied, not just those who are your personal favorites? Have you thought about what are the implications of potential transmission of their own academic weaknesses or prejudices to his son? Do you have a plan to avoid or at least mitigate this potential problem? From my experience, families who are considered homeschooling because of a difficult situation, are perhaps the most diverse group. They are also some families who have more difficulty in working school-house for the simple reason that they are under some form of severe stress, which makes everything harder. The issues facing these families are the following: Why do you think will improve education in the home of your situation? Do you really time and energy to devote to this important project? I have seen families forced to homeschooling that works very well and I’ve seen homeschooling escalate into something very horrible. My favorite example of a family that was forced to homeschooling by circumstances, but left her job and for them is a family of an aunt and uncle who adopted their very serious problems and nephew School phobia. When she adopted her nephew, who had learned to associate with school failure and responded with a mixture of indifference and aggression. It was enough as prepubecent child, but entering adolescence, the situation became untenable. For this student, the school-house was a wonderful second chance that allowed him to start learning without having to carry the baggage of their past failures at all. He has made tremendous progress over the years since I started working with him. I truly believe that this could not have made much progress in any other environment. Moreover, once involved in home education of a child whose mother was terminally ill. The situation was even worse than you think because I was on medication that made him literally and completely mad. The poor woman had many terrifying hallucinations and was so afraid that sometimes does not allow his son to leave his apartment for stretches of several days. Although home schooling by a team of education professionals who helped take more or less academic, the emotional cost of being isolated from friends and the outside world, while trying to cope with the illness of his mother made a terrible situation even worse. Honestly, I think it would have been preferable for him to go to school. Although she had achieved all the questions, just getting out of the house and see their comrades have been improved. Finally, professional family with one child. In these situations, relevant issues not know much about the school-house, are really race of the child. Then the child facing a career? It is the desire of a race to the child? If the race does not extend into adulthood, he or she will have the skills to earn a living otherwise? I met a professional children personally, and it was a beautiful girl in grade 8, who truly loved acting. I homeschooled while she was leading in an off-Broadway. I have been very successful in all aspects of your life, and she was able to do very well in terms of maintaining her academics as well as his career. He had great admiration for the way he managed all aspects of your life. They also respected the fact that his parents supported his desire to pursue an acting career, but definitely not pushing it. Its location was near perfect. On the other hand, told me some disturbing stories about other children of professionals who knew they were essentially forced to pursue a career as they do not want for themselves. Obviously, one option is unethical for parents to force their children. Homeschooling is really the point. From my experience, home education in general, families are doing very well (and often very good) when they enter education at home with your child’s interests is really front and center . They often encounter problems when homeschooling is more about parents than the child. Ask yourself why and how you want to do this before you start. Be as honest as possible with their responses. The way of thinking about your child’s education may not change over time, but if you keep these questions in mind, the chances of making the right decision for your family is very good.
